In this regard, Sasori of the Red Sand, so named because of the blood he spilled, is inarguably the most powerful ninja puppeteer in Naruto lore, capable of using up to a hundred highly-advanced puppets at once. The strength of these special ninjas is measured not in how powerful their puppets are, but in how many they can control at one time. Ninja puppet masters are special shinobi who utilize life-sized weaponized dolls that are controlled through chakra threads. With so many new characters still being developed and introduced, it makes sense to run down some of the most powerful shinobi in Naruto lore. The series is still continuing with Naruto’s son, Boruto, as the protagonist of his own series. Using chakra, a mix of spiritual and physical energy that runs through the body like a second circulatory system in their universe, characters in Naruto are capable of everything from insane physical abilities to elemental mastery and reality-warping spells. Insert obligatory “It’s over 9000!” joke here. It might feature some of the most iconic anime characters of all time, but it also has some of the lowest stakes of any anime simply due to the ludicrous power levels its characters reach. And the biggest offender of believability in this regard is quite possibly the seminal, beloved Naruto franchise. Although comics are often criticized for having no real stakes because superheroes are usually too strong to feasibly lose, no one does ridiculously overpowered characters like anime.
